Are you having problems training your dog? Don’t worry, most people get the same problem in the end. Fortunately for people, there are courses that you can get into that will help teach you everything you need to know to become the alpha dog in your pack or family. After I tell you these tips, I’ll talk about a program that you should look into getting to get the full experience in how to train your dog.

Tip one, you need to assert yourself as pack leader of your family with your dog. If you don’t do this as early as possible in your doggy’s life, you will have problems because otherwise they will literally walk all over you and behave badly. A way to go about this would be starting off with a calm and assertive attitude. Animals can sense feelings, and if you feel nervous or angry, the dog will act accordingly.

Tip 2, don’t let your sleeping dog lie. This little step will associate you with being the pack leader, because now the animal is going to learn to adjust itself to you.

Tip three, take your dog out once every 2 hours and 20 minutes after feeding. This is going to be a tip for bathroom behavior and it will help make you pack leader. This little trick will let your puppy know that they need to use the bathroom at a certain time, and to begin coming to you when they need to use the restroom.

You can get even more tips, just check them out in Secrets to Dog Training (SitStayFetch) by Daniel Stevens. If you want to master dog training, then this program is the one for you. The biggest selling point for us is the video training, without it you might end up having problems relating the lessons. Coming from a dog owner myself who actually used the program, I highly recommend it.

You should read SitStayFetch Review and other product reviews at ReviewMOZ instead of listening to me talk the products up. While you’re there, check out other dog products such as Dog Food Secrets Review.

One simple concept is all there is to clicker train your dog , and this is exemplified in the principle of training called operant conditioning. This piece of dog training advice is much in line with the principles that tie all animals together. Whether we realize it or not, humans learn from this same form of training.

Let’s look at one instance of operant conditioning. If you were in a room with two doors leading out, you would want to leave by the easiest or safest one. If one door opened to a stairway that led up while the other opened to the outside of the building with no steps, you would choose the easier way to the outside.

Your dog will keep doing the things he is rewarded for, and eventually he will stop doing things that he gets no reward for or puts him in bad favor with his master. In standard puppy training advice, you are told to reward a dog with praise for doing something he is asked to do. This makes him know that you are satisfied with his behavior.

Dogs don’t understand the words you are saying, so whether you say “good boy” or anything else, he doesn’t actually comprehend the words. The use of the clicker is for the purpose of association.

When your dog does what is expected of him, you click the clicker and he learns this indicates something positive. The clicker is as good as any words you could use, and it is short, sharp, and gets his attention.

The clicker doesn’t replace any training. It is just a tool for simplification and, in the dog’s case, clarification. You might say “good dog” with a little voice inflection that is different one time than another. Additionally, the pure clicking sound is so short that the dog can instinctively understand that the sound means the master approves.

Immediately after the click the dog should be given a treat, in the early part of the training. The click alone acts as a reinforcement of approval by the master because the dog will associate the treat with the sound.

Of course, treats should still be given sometimes to reward doing what is requested, or the dog will eventually stop responding to the commands. When the dog does everything that is asked it is not neccessary for him to be given a treat as a reward.

People respond favorably to rewards for what they do. See how long people will continue doing things if you stop paying people for the services they provide, if you don’t think that this is true.

In this respect dogs aren’t that much different. If they understand that you approve of what they do, it is because of what they receive, which may be a dog treat, a clicking noise, or verbal praise. One key tip piece of dog training advice is remember the reward, whether verbal, edible, or the sound of a clicker.

You may get started training your puppy as early as 8 weeks old. He/She will likely not react positively quickly, but you will be setting up a corner stone for your pet’s education at an early age.

It’s vital to understand that the extent of dog training, housebreaking and guidance required will largely be based on your dog. Some breeds are really smart and might learn readily depending on your puppy training strategies. If your pet does not react positively as promptly as you believe it should, merely spend increased time working with him/her and you’ll have a fully-trained puppy in no time.

Notice your puppy in assorted conditions and you are sure to rapidly understand what he likes and does not like or how he’s feeling. You may then take measures to grant him more of what he likes and more reinforcement, confidence and training in circumstances he finds more troublesome. Dogs are intelligent animals and they learn from experience.

Whenever you attempt obedience training with your dog, make certain that you have his/her best-loved treats on hand to aid as a reward. In addition, puppy training must be approached at a juncture that is calm for both you and your puppy. If he/she is distraught about something, it is not likely the training plan will be rewarding. Preferably, your dog should be calmed and ready to focus on the training work at hand.

At no time display physical punishment as a manner of puppy training. This can always result in your dog being afraid or nervous when you are close-by. Rather, reward positive actions and ignore them if they fail to respond on command. Case in point, if you direct your dog to “sit”, calmly push down on his/her backside and repeat the instruction. When your puppy is sitting, reward him/her with a treat and compliments. If your pet refuses to sit, walk away and give a try again in a few minutes. Training takes time and understanding, but should not ever include your dog behaving terrified of you. If you have been training longer than 15 minutes cease and take a break.

you’re certainly not training horses, so enjoy yourself and have a ball with your shortly to be best friend.

The Bark Off Dog Barking Control device is making quite a stir these days. It’s obviously one of the most successful As Seen On TV Store items to come out in 2010 but does it work? Well first, perhaps I should explain what it is intended to do.

The Bark Off is an apparent solution to the annoying problem of dog barking. The Bark Off solves the annoying problem of dog barking We’ve all been faced with this at one time or another and it can be excruciating. You know, you are trying to sleep and the neighbor’s dog is barking all night, or you’re trying to watch TV and you can’t seem to quiet your dog.

Some dog barking is a really great thing. It’s an obvious deterrent to for criminals and can alert you to all types of dangers, but what do you when you just don’t want to hear it anymore? Or better yet when you can’t stand it anymore. Some type of dog barking control is in order, but which one?At times, dog barking control is in need.

Shock collars seem inhumane and training a dog not to bark can be difficult. Many people are concerned about the inhumanity of shock collars but have found no other options until the Bark Off. Even if you are successful you might risk the dog’s understanding of when to bark at the sign of trouble. After all, barking is an instinctual way for out dogs to transmit with us and stifling that might be a bad thing.Complete stifling of a dog’s bark is not the answer as barking is an instinctual way for dogs to communicate.

So the Bark Off offers an interesting option because of how it works. The Bark Off offers a new option that works like no other deterrent on the market.Basically, when turned on it emits a harmless supersonic wave that is not audible to humans but speedily gets the dog’s attention.

Whenever your dog begins to yap, the unit is activated and the ultrasonic wave is emitted. It does no harm to the dog and simply interrupts the dog’s barking pattern. The Bark Off does not harm the dog but simply interrupts the dog’s barking pattern. The theory is that if you can distract the dog’s attention from whatever the cause of its barking is, then it will stop. The ultrasonic wave just commands the dog’s attention and they forget what got them barking in the first place.Commanding the dog’s attention with the ultrasonic wave grabs the dog’s attention, making them forget what they were barking about to begin with.

In theory this is an awesome idea, but in practice it might prove difficult. If the Bark Off really works, I for one want to know about it because it could be the perfect solution to my dog barking issues. If the Bark Off is all it promises to be, this could be the perfect solution to my own dog barking issues.

My particular problem involves a neighbor’s dog. It’s really a great dog but he loves to bark late at night and although my neighbor’s say they try to control it, it’s become a pain in the neck for everyone. Unfortunately, the area the dog likes to hang out is literally 10 feet from my bedroom window. The Bark Off is supposed to work at a decent distance so theoretically I could place the unit by my bed and flip it on at night. If it’s successful, then the dog will either stay quiet or move somewhere else and my problem will be resolved. For neighbors troubled by barking dogs, the dog will either stay quiet or change locations, solving their problem.

Hopefully, this minuscule invention will put an end to the annoying yapping of our little friends but in my opinion the jury is still out. It’s tough to believe that a elementary little contraption like this could be the answer but sometimes the solutions to some of our biggest problems are really easy.

Having a dog as a companion can be among the most rewarding experiences in your life but it can also be very difficult if your dog happens to have serious behavior problems. The good news is that it’s easy to learn how to control your dog’s behavior with a Do It Yourself dog training guide.

Caring & Providing for Chihuahua can be a lot of fun andcan also greatly increase the quality of your pets life. With a little knowledge , basic chihuahua care is not difficult to to do to keep healthy .

Chihuahuas are recognized as the smallest dog breed accordingly by the American Kennel Club . Their small size requires extra care when bathing . When finished bathing make sure they are thoroughly dried off as they have a small body mass that merely can not maintain heat when wet . They will appreciate being bundled up in a soft dry towel after the bath!
Once bathed, next is the toenail trimming . An effective way to clip your Chihuahuas toe nails is with using guillotine clipper types , obtainable at most pet stores In case you happen to trim too far, a bottle of Kwik stop is a good item to have on hand, if you’ve nipped the quick. The quick is the part of the dog’s toenail where there is blood supply . When the quick is cut, bleeding will occur. By applying directly the Quick Stop powder, it can help to stop the bleeding faster.

Before you bring home your new pet chihuahua, it’s best to keep safety in mind and pet proof. . Starting by surveying your home, the garage & your yard. Look and inspect for anything that you might believe would be a danger to your pet. Wrap electrical cords and hide them out of harms way. Cleaners & chemicals stored in a shut cabinet. Keep in mind that certain plants are toxic to dogs and to place and keep out of reach to your dog. Chihuahuas are very curious exploring animals that delight exploring their environment! Best to be proactive and pet proof your home.

Establish a monthly routine where you give your pet a little physical exam . It’s a good idea to be in the habit of looking for changes and learn more about your dog. Examine the ears, eyes & nose , and their mouth for any signs of redness or drainage. As this could be a sign of potential infection. Examine all over their body, by track your hands checking for lumps, bumps or masses..

It’s always good to take caution and provide attentive care to your pet Chihuahua They may very will be one of the oldest breeds of dogs, however they indeed are a delicate breed.

All dogs have the possibility of being aggressive. Many believe that all dogs of a certain breed are naturally aggressive but the truth is the ones believed to be aggressive are the ones that people often train to be mean.

For an example take the pit bull. Pitt Bulls are not overly mean and aggressive by nature. In fact they can be very mild tempered and sweet dogs. However people love to train the pit bull to be a mean aggressive dog.

While it is true that a dog of a certain breed is not guaranteed to be mean all dogs have a personality of their own. If you find that you have an aggressive dog you need to use caution around them especially if they are around children.

So what do you do if you get a dog that is a bit on the aggressive side besides wondering ” “is my dog aggressive“?

Well other then to get your dog obeidience training , the answer depends on how aggressive your dog is and what sets them off.

One form of aggression is when your dog crouches down with their belly close to the ground like they are ready to spring in for the attack while growling and barking. One of the best ways to curb this type of behavior is to simply ignore your dog. Any form of eye contact will be taken as a challenge by your dog and the game will continue on.

Never lash out or spank your dog if he is doing this or it will turn into a game where he tries to dog you and lunge at you for his turn. Once it becomes a game for your dog it will be very hard to break him of doing it.

If your dog gets aggressive when he is eating the best way to deal with it is to stay around him every time he is eating. Never touch an aggressive dog while he is eating his food. Start out by staying in the same room and gradually work your way closer every meal.

Always use caution when doing this and pay close attention to the signs your dog is giving you. If he is getting nervous then do not get any closer.

When you have a very aggressive dog the best thing you can do is to use caution when around your dog and talk to a dog trainer to get the best advice on how to handle your individual situation and to get more information on training aggressive dogs.

Dealing with an aggressive dog can be a major problem especially if you have children around. If you are noticing that you dog is aggressive you have a couple options that are available to you for handling it.

The first option presented to you would be to just say goodbye to your dog (not necessarily the best option). While most people view their dogs as part of the family and would never want to get rid of them, for some this is the option they choose.

If you do decide that you want to get rid of your dog then make sure you find him a safe home. You should never let any dog go especially if they are aggressive. Dogs have had the wild breed out of them so the great outdoors is very unsafe for them out on their own.

The better option would be to either train your dog to not be aggressive or let someone else train him. There are a variety of classes you can take your dog to and there are private dog trainers most everywhere. If you decide to train your dog yourself, do not worry if you encounter some dog training problems. This is normal and you and your dog will be able to overcome the dog training mishaps.

One way of training your dog is through clicker training. If clicker dog training is done correctly you will see a major improvement in your dog’s behavior. The beauty of clicker training for dogs is that after a while of using the clicker you will have a dog that listens to your commands without the need of using the clicker or dog treats.

Timing is everything when using the clicker dog training method. If you mess this up it will be much harder to train your dog and will take much longer.

The second that your dog follows your command you need to click with the clicker and give them a treat. If you wait to long the dog will not understand what behavior got them the treat he will just know that he is very lucky because you are excited and feeding him yummy treats.

Another thing to know about clicker training is that you do not want your dog to see the clicker in your hand. You can also click with your tongue instead of the clicker after your dog has gotten used to the clicking.

No matter how you are going to train your dog make sure you are using positive and safe dog obedience training methods. Not only will negative training methods hurt your dog but you will also notice a decline in your dogs behavior over time.

As a pet owner, you love your dog, but you know how irritated you end up when it seems like there is simply no way to turn the maddening bark off. Have you ever found yourself creating as much noise as your dog, yelling at her trying to get her to stop barking? Well don’t give up as there are options.

When it comes to training your dog in the area of bark control there are various methods you can use and so many times it comes down to a personal preference or approach. The essential thing to realize though with any training, is that your dog must learn that she needs to obey you as you are the master. Rewards are an effective way of making this point.

It’s also vital to train your dog in such a way as to never cause your dog to be scared of you. Would you bother to respond to someone who you felt was going to harm you in some way? So you can find much better methods.

So for stop dog barking training, start by considering why it is your dog is barking. Dog barking is allowable. However, unnecessary, continual barking is a different matter. The principal thing is to help your dog see the difference between the two.

Bark collars containing a device that sends out a gentle shock when the dog barks is one way some owners have taken to turn the bark off. There are various types out there that have different functionality in when the shock is generated and variations in strength. You hear good reports about the success of these bark deterrents, however this is not the first choice for many.

The citronella bark collar is another possibility that has come onto the market. The device on these collars spray citronella into the air in front of the dog after the dog barks. Because dogs do not like the citronella smell they learn to stop barking to avoid the smell. Though this seems a more humane of bark control, it might not be the first pick for an indoor dog silencer.

Another option to the bark collars to stop dog barking is an ultrasonic sound device. When a dog starts barking these devices release a sound frequency that is detected by dogs though inaudible to humans. The dog will stop barking as the sound will interrupt them. The bonus of this system is it will not only stop your dog from barking, it will silence the other dogs who may be the ones causing your dog to bark.

Non-dog owners have even turned to using these ultrasonic dog barking devices if they have neighbours who have not trained their dogs to stop barking. They will put the device close enough to become activated by the dog’s barking and it’ll do its thing; a subtle way to turn the bark off.

Remember dogs are dogs and barking is what they do. You don’t want them not to bark, you just want them to bark befittingly. Positive reinforcement goes a long way in training your dog. So if you commend your dog for not barking when she is silent, you may be pleasantly surprised at how discriminating your dog becomes in choosing when to bark, regardless of what approach to bark control you go with.

You may be asking yourself whether dogs actually like a pink dog bed. Sure, they may not understand the fuss; but after all, pink spells fun. So when you can buy a dog bed which is both cool and cozy, you get to meet the 2 principles of design – usefulness and flair.

Pink dog beds are flourishing in the market these days. They’re available in various styles and types. Some are simple padded mats, although some are round or designed just like a flower. In addition there are designer dog beds and nesting dog beds; a few double as pet carriers or lightweight dog houses. If you are shopping for one of those cute beds, below are a few items you should check.

Product Features

If you don’t want your dog bed to end up merely as a decoration, then you have to be cautious regarding the item features, particularly the sizing. You’d probably wish your pet to be snug, hence there needs to be plenty of room for adjusting. It would not necessarily have to be very spacious, your pet must be able to stretch out and move around a little. Notice that nearly all pink dog beds in the market are designed for small pets so if your pet is bigger, you want to do more digging around. Aside from the sizing, you may want to confirm the weight limit, to make sure that the filling is sufficient to deal with the weight of your pet. If you are searching for a transportable dog bed, make sure to think about the weight of the dog bed as well.

Materials

Dog beds are available in a wide range of materials, many are built with plastic and others are usually covered with suede. Remember that when it comes to dog beds, it’s not necessarily merely the cover that should be considered. Support is actually the name of the game. A well-padded dog bed is going to be best for your little pet’s bones. The cover should also be able to endure scratching and also biting. Otherwise, your house might have lint scattered all over the place. It would be hazardous for the dog if it eats the filling.

Maintenance

Beds for dogs can be tough to clean. It would help if you get one which has a waterproof liner. If it does not have that, you can at least have it covered with a water-resistant linen. Whether or not your dog is well-trained, incidents may take place; and we aren’t merely discussing your dog’s urinating routines. Some liquid canisters might get bumped over or your dog might hop on the bed right after stepping on some nasty stuff. A zippered liner would also be an excellent feature, because it is readily washable.

The truth is, pink can be very pretty. Your pretty dog isn’t likely to look washed out when perched on a pink bed. Quite the contrary; they would look much more lovable. No one will really know whether or not dogs might take pleasure in sitting on pink dog beds, however given that it’s a fluffy, comfortable pink dog bed, all is well.

When people initially think of training a puppy, the first thing that comes to mind is housetraining. Housetraining your puppy is a part of an overall training process. There are many other different aspects for training your puppy aside from just training him to go to the bathroom outside though. Before you start training your puppy read over this puppy training advice to get some helpful hints to make the process easier!

Dog training advice-Teach Him to Sit

Many people train their dog to sit so they can show off how gifted their dog is when their relatives or friends come over. It is great to train your dog to be an entertainer, and he may even become famous. However, the sit command servers other purposes as well.

The sit command is useful when you need to bring your dog under control. For example, putting a leash on your dog when you need to take him for a walk. If he is excited and jumping about , you need to command him to sit so you can do this easily. The same command comes in handy during a walk when your dog needs to stop pulling and tugging the leash.

Begin teaching this command using dog treats . Gently “place” the dog in a sitting position, and say the word “sit” distinctly and clearly. When the puppy stands on all fours, hold the treat in one hand directly in front of him and lift it slowly just above his head, using your free hand to gently push his rear to the ground. Keep saying the word “sit.” When he sits on command, give him the treat .

Do this preferably several times a day. After a short while, your dog will sit on command without the use of the puppy treats.

Teach Him to Lie Down

When your dog is in a sitting position, take a treat and place it under his nose. Once he knows you have a treat, slowly lower it to the floor and “pull” it slowly away from him.

At first, you may need to prompt his body gently into a lying position until he grasps the general idea. Be sure when working with him to use the “down” command often and distinctly.

Puppy Training Advice – General Puppy Techniques

Consistency is crucial, and always consider that some dogs take longer to train than others, so maintain patience. Always use the same verbal command when training your puppy. One word commands work best.

A silent hand command is also an option. For example, two fingers might be used to indicate sit, while a balled up fist may signify the down command. When you teach your puppy a new command, use it often and remember..practice practice practice.

Dog owners have a tendency when their dogs develop behavior problems to blame the dog. Some of the first questions that a dog training advice expert is going to ask you are; “Do you work with your dog regularly? Have you attempted to work on these specific behavior problems in the past? If so, what methods did you use?”

At this point, the dog owner with the badly-behaved animal shifts his eyes and looks away , most likely because he has not worked with the dog at all.

The owner never intended the situation to evolve to this, yet it has. So now what?

Nip It in the Bud

The first thing you should know is that when your dog is a puppy that is the best time to start training him according to most puppy training advice experts. This will not always be possible, though , but it is the preferred method. As Barney Fife always said on the Andy Griffith Show, “You’ve got to nip it, Andy. Nip it in the bud.”

As soon as bad behavior starts to spring up, nip it, but not by abuse, punishment, or whipping. One of the first words your puppy needs to learn is the word “NO;” a firm and consistent “NO” every time he repeats the bad behavior.

Make sure the inflection of voice you use for “NO” in no way can be confused with “I am happy or okay with this.” Don’t drag it out, either. Say no, make sure he understands, and then move on and ignore him for a bit. He knows now you don’t want to play, and that is because you are upset about what he did. Eventually, you will nip it in the bud, and Barney would be proud.

Be Consistent

Consistency is another crucial part of dog training advice. If you tell your dog “NO” today in regards to some behavior or action, you must do so repeatedly. You cannot allow him to get away with bad behavior because you are tired, or have guests, or are in the middle of your favorite television show. If you want your dog to behave consistently, then consistently teach him how.

Who’s In Charge

In the dog training relationship there can only be one boss. Since it is the dog being trained, we’ll assume the owner, then, is to be the designated boss. The dog has to know that, too.

Some dog owners erroneously assume that by instilling terror or fear in the dog, the dog will in turn fear them, and they will have no more worries because the dog knows who is in control. This theory is incorrect when it comes to dog training advice.

Pleasing his master is something that dogs instinctively want to do. You do not want to have a relationship with your dog built on fear, you want to have good relationship. Reward good behavior in your dog. Spend time with him. This builds and empowers the master-dog relationship, and your training efforts will achieve the desired results.

You know when your dog is coming because you can hear his nails scraping on the flooring as he comes walking by. If this sounds like your pet, then it’s plausible time to fire up your trusty little Pedi Paws and do some clipping. Before you go get the ol’ handy-dandy Pedi Paws dog nail grinder out, it’s highly important to know what makes up your dog’s claws so that you don’t cause pain to your canine.

A dog’s nails have a hardened outside layer which protects the quick which is the inner soft part made of blood vessels and sensitive nerves. As such, it is absolutely important when trimming your animal’s nails, not to get too near the quick or you will inflict your canine a lot of pain.

If your canine’s claws are light in color you’ll more than likely be able to notice a light pink colored section. This is the quick I was referring to and the part you will want to stay away of.

If the animal’s nails are dark, it’s almost impossible to distinguish the quick just by looking. So the nail cutting procedure needs your full attention. To reduce the risk of hurting your pet, you need to grind the nail in little parts instead of big chunks. When you remove a small part, examine it. If you notice a dark spot in the trimming, it means that you are near the start of the “quick”. Grinding ever so slightly, make sure you don’t go any further once you find a light inner circle because you have now located the “quick”.

Also, grown on the inside of the dog’s leg and in an area that does not touch the floor is your animal’s dew claws. These too need to be trimmed.

Basically, if you groom your dog’s nails often, it will be easiest for the dog & you. What you want, is to cut off any claw that sticks out over your dog’s pad so when he stands, the nails do not touch the deck.

Whether you are using a Pedi Paws or a similar pet nail grinder to do your pet nail grooming, it’s most important to follow the user manual and be well-defined on the proper way to use the dog nail clippers. This is not the time to follow the “when all else fails” method of thinking.

If you accidentally trim too much making the nail bleed, pack the area with styptic powder until the bleeding stops and an apology to your animal would be in order.

The younger your K-9 is when you start the process, the easier it will be for them. Depending on the size of your dog, you might need to have somebody help you with the pet nail trimming or you may need to have it professionally done.

Rewarding your K-9 with their favorite doggy chew is always a nice way to end your pet nail trimmer session and may subside the gamble of them racing away next time.

In recent years the pet food industry has been rocked by dog food scandals. There have been revelations of commercial dog food products containing everything from poisons to cancer-causing preservatives and even road-killed animals and dead pets!

So many people are confused – what really is the best dog food to give your dog?

Some commercial dog foods are so deficient in vital nutrients that canines who rely on these long-term develop hypersensitivity to their environment!

What’s more, some of the ingredients still being used in certain pet foods were banned for consumption by humans decades ago!

That is why many dog owners are moving away from commercial pet foods and making healthy dog food at home with healthy dog food recipes.

As a responsible dog owner you should also be aware that there are many foods that humans eat that are dangerous to dogs. Here are a few examples: onions, brocolli and raisins. There are many more and you need to know which foods to avoid and whether to avoid these completely or just lower your dog’s intake

The reason human foods are not always good is because dogs are very different to humans. Dogs have simple stomachs and short digestive tracts for digesting meat. And unfortunately the cooking process used by commercial pet food companies will kill off the enzymes which are needed by dogs to assist the digestion process.

One of the best favors you can do for your dog is to feed him foods that are natural for dogs to eat. In order to prepare natural dog food you will require two sets of information, and we’ll tell you where to get them free.

1. A list of human foods that are not good for your dog. Some of these you should never, ever give to a dog. Others may be okay in smaller quanitities.

2. A set of healthy dog food recipes so you can prepare healthy dog food at home.

Once you read and follow this information about the best dog food to feed your dog, it is quite possible your dog will live a long and happier life!

In this article we will cover leash training fundamentals, for those in need of dog training advice. Some dogs are very resistant to being controlled on a leash, yet there are times when it is imperative to utilize one.

You may have a dog that lives indoors and goes outside in a fenced yard to play and relieve himself. Because you rarely have a need to control your dog, you might have never trained him to walk on a leash.

There may be times you need to have Fido restrained, whether going to the pet store, walking on the beach, or going to the veterinarian. You may also decide to take your dogs on walks at some point to allow him to see more of his surrounding world.

Putting the Leash and Collar on the Dog

The best time to get your dog accustomed to wearing a leash and a collar is at the puppy stage, according to most puppy training advice.

When you take your dog somewhere, he could not be more pleased! Some dogs learn very early that leash means you are going somewhere with him. Your dog will be more in control than you are if he leaps and bounds around the room and you find it hard to attach his leash or collar .

You can calmly prepare your dog for the walk by teaching him to sit at your command, this is an important skill to teach. This is a common command and one you’ll find comes in handy many times during dog ownership.

Who’s Walking Whom

A common problem among dog owners is trying to ascertain who is walking whom. In case you don’t know, you are supposed to be the one in control. If you are being dragged down the street by your dog, something is wrong. Actually, it’s downright embarrassing.

This can be easy or difficult depending on the size and strength of the dog. If you start training your pet as a puppy, the whole scenario will go much better for you as the dog grows.

Every time your dog pulls on the leash, just stand still and stop walking. Give him a loud and firm “NO” if he pulls again. Once he stops pulling, command him to sit. The walk can resume once he sits and you are in control again. Repeat this no matter how many times it takes. He has to learn who’s in charge. Eventually he’ll learn that it is more fun to walk than sit.

The Proper Equipment

Just because they make some products for dogs does not mean they are humane or safe. Choke chains might stop your dog from pulling, but at what physical expense to the dog? You are not trying to choke him to death, you are trying to train him.

Some people might recommend a few other ways to train your animal, such as the dog shocking method, but remember this is not a humane way to train your dog.

A simple leader and harness is all that is needed to bring your dog under control without abusing him physically. A choke collar simply controls the dog’s neck area, whereas a harness is more stable and supports the dog’s entire body.

The leader then causes the dog to raise his head if he pulls, which does not hurt the dog, he just does not like it because it is slightly uncomfortable.

As a Last Resort, if you cannot bring your dog under control using these methods, your best course of action might be to join a dog training class or consult a professional for further dog training advice.

Have you ever had the misfortunate experience of going to sleep in a uncomfortable bed, only to wake up in the morning aching all over your body? If you haven’t, your lucky. If you have, you already know it’s no fun. If your animal was able to talk, what would they have to say about the bed? I’m guessing it would depend on whether it’s an old cushion lying in a box like our dog had when we were kids, or if he has a well-suited, supporting bed like Dog Pedic beds for dogs.

Many times it is thought that because they are dogs, or because they’re small and don’t weigh much, there is no need for a quality bed. Owners with large dogs may give it more thought, but even then will locate something round the house that is suitable.

Here’s the thing, Hip dysplasia, which is an abnormal establishment of the hip socket, is more common in dogs. It is one of the most studied conditions in dogs because it is the most common cause of arthritis in dogs, causing a lot of pain and in remote cases causes disabling lameness. Certain breeds and large dogs are more prone to it.

With this knowledge, selecting the right bed for your dog needs to be granted some thought and consideration. If your dog is young, a DogPedic bed will lend support to their joints right from the get go. For dogs that are older and may already be having some joint pain, having a bed that conforms around their body relieves pressure from the joints allowing for a enjoyable night’s sleep. Beds for dogs falling into this category are oftentimes known as orthopedic dog beds.

Memory foam beds for dogs have become well-known today for people just as much as for pets, as they mold themselves to your body to supply firm support, alleviating any pressure points. This is the same when the foam is used in creating beds for animals. The DogPedic bed will support dogs that weigh up to as much as 150 pounds.

One other thing you should consider besides the quality of the bed you are providing for your dog, is your dog’s personal preference for sleeping. If your dog likes to curl up and cuddle, you may need to put their cushion in a box or cage or something similar like that, that they can curl up against. If your dog favors to be covered up, find them a soft cover to go on their bed. Or if he likes to stretch out, be sure you buy one large enough to allow for that.

If you think about the number of hours your dog sleeps during the day, you must know that giving a memory foam bed for your dog is an investment in their health, and one that really is low-cost. So, don’t do like some owners do, but do your dog a favor, get rid of the old pillow and buy a DogPedic – the Cadillac of dog beds.

Chihuahuas are the world’s smallest breed of dog,and they make very popular pets! They’re named after the Mexican state where they were discovered, which explains why Spanish Chihuahua names are so common for this breed…and why a Chihuahua is the Taco Bell mascot!

As you look for Chihuahua names, the biggest thing to remember is to choose a name that you like and that also works for your dog. To help you do this, here are four suggestions , specifically suited to Chihuahuas, that you may want to use :

1) You can look for dog names that refer to your Chihuahua’s most obvious physical attribute – its size . In this instance, names like Atom, Gadget, Peanut, Tic Tac and Tinkerbell might fit the bill .

2) You can look for a name that refers to your dog’s Spanish heritage. Bonita (pretty), Chiquita (small girl), Carlos and Geraldo are all examples of Spanish monkiers .

3) You can look for a name that has a touch of humor or hyperbole . For example, imagine a small Chihuahua called Moose, Hercules or Bruiser!

4) Since little dogs are noted for their larger than life personalities, you can look for a name that refers to this characteristic . Diva, Princess, Jock and Napoleon are all examples of names that make a statement !

Of course, if none of these ideas work for you and your Chihuahua, there are countless other possibilities . Here are some more suggestions to help guide you:

1) Use your hobbies for inspiration. If you’re a golfer, how about the name Putter? Love to read? Choose the name of your favorite author!

2) Think of famous people – presidents, royalty, movie stars, scientists, inventors…the list goes on. If there’s someone you admire or whose name you like , you may want to name your Chihuahua after them.

3) Look at your Chihuahua’s other physical attributes, such as its color and markings. How about Q-Tip for a white Chihuahua or Oreo for a black and white one?

4) Look for something unique. If you’re looking for a name that’s a little out of the ordinary, choose one from a foreign language, like Japanese dog names or any other language that appeals to you.

5) Consult pet naming books and websites. You’ll find countless numbers of pet names to choose from.

Remember to use your imagination to help make finding a Chihuahua name stress free and fun. The only names you should avoid are ones that sound like commands (they may confuse your dog) and names that are derogatory to your Chihuahua. Also, one or two-syllable names are usually considered preferable, as they are easiest to pronounce and easiest for your dog to understand . Of course, don’t let this deter you! You can pick any name that appeals to you , just remember that you will be calling it out dozens of times each day, so a shorter version may be more convenient for daily use.

Finally, don’t forget to enlist the help of your Chihuahua! Call out some of the names on your short-list and wait to see his or her response . This may help you decide on the perfect name for your new Chihuahua. Good luck!

There are lots of people who love pets. I am decidedly one of those people. I grew up having pets of every kind. By far, though , my favorite pet is a dog. I had a couple of dogs as a child and my parents have two dogs now. My husband doesn’t like pets though, so we don’t have any unfortunately. I just have to live vicariously through other people who have dogs or other pets .

My husband is right that there are a bunch of factors you have to consider if you want to get a dog. Not only do you have to pay for the initial cost of the dog, but you also have to pay to get shots for it and to get it spade or neutered. You have to pay for their dog food, which a lot of people now pay for the more expensive kind of food. There are always the vet bills that you will have to pay on random days , so that’s not fun. Making sure they have their pet flea medicine is another job. You have to clean up after them and buy them toys that they end up destroying. Those are all the cons though, so let’s talk about the positives of having or getting a dog.

There are a lot of great things about having a dog. To me, all of the negatives of getting a dog don’t mean a thing when compared to the pros . They are a constant companion and friend. They are always there for you no matter what. They are so much fun to play with and have around. They love to snuggle, which is definitely my favorite part about them . They are always so happy and that just makes you even more happy . Not to mention that they are each so cute and have their own personalities. Perhaps one day I’ll be able to persuade my husband into getting a dog. Until then , I’ll just enjoy my friends and family’s dogs and pets.
