Do You Want Your Dog To Sleep In Comfort?

June 9th, 2010

Have you ever had the misfortunate experience of going to sleep in a uncomfortable bed, only to wake up in the morning aching all over your body?  If you haven’t, your lucky.  If you have, you already know it’s no fun.  If your animal was able to talk, what would they have to say about the bed? I’m guessing it would depend on whether it’s an old cushion lying in a box like our dog had when we were kids, or if he has a well-suited, supporting bed like Dog Pedic beds for dogs.

Many times it is thought that because they are dogs, or because they’re small and don’t weigh much, there is no need for a quality bed.  Owners with large dogs may give it more thought, but even then will locate something round the house that is suitable.

Here’s the thing, Hip dysplasia, which is an abnormal establishment of the hip socket, is more common in dogs.  It is one of the most studied conditions in dogs because it is the most common cause of arthritis in dogs, causing a lot of pain and in remote cases causes disabling lameness.  Certain breeds and large dogs are more prone to it.

With this knowledge, selecting the right bed for your dog needs to be granted some thought and consideration.  If your dog is young, a DogPedic bed will lend support to their joints right from the get go.  For dogs that are older and may already be having some joint pain, having a bed that conforms around their body relieves pressure from the joints allowing for a enjoyable night’s sleep.  Beds for dogs falling into this category are oftentimes known as orthopedic dog beds.

Memory foam beds for dogs have become well-known today for people just as much as for pets, as they mold themselves to your body to supply firm support, alleviating any pressure points.  This is the same when the foam is used in creating beds for animals.  The DogPedic bed will support dogs that weigh up to as much as 150 pounds.

One other thing you should consider besides the quality of the bed you are providing for your dog, is your dog’s personal preference for sleeping.  If your dog likes to curl up and cuddle, you may need to put their cushion in a box or cage or something similar like that, that they can curl up against.  If your dog favors to be covered up, find them a soft cover to go on their bed.  Or if he likes to stretch out, be sure you buy one large enough to allow for that.

If you think about the number of hours your dog sleeps during the day, you must know that giving a memory foam bed for your dog is an investment in their health, and one that really is low-cost. So, don’t do like some owners do, but do your dog a favor, get rid of the old pillow and buy a DogPedic – the Cadillac of dog beds.
