Dog Heath Care Tips – Lets Begin With Puppy Bathing

If you own a puppy, you’ll know how stressful it can be to clean him. But don’t give up on this important bath ritual, as it is an essential part of any dog health care routine. Remember that the way you bathe your puppy teaches your dog a lot about how he has to be kept clean. Cleaning your dog can be a fun pet health process though, and if you’re planning on bathing your puppy, read on…

Before turning the bathwater on, make sure you have everything you need conveniently positioned next to you. A brush and a dog conditioner are just some of the essentials you need. Also get a generously-sized towel to wrap your pooch in later. Then you need to make sure you’re wearing clothes that you don’t mind about getting wet. It is advisable to bathe the puppy when he is hungry, as he will be more attentive then. Call your puppy to you and offer a treat, remove his collar and give him a few more treats. Most importantly, you have to convince your dog that this is a fun process. Next up is the comb – brush the puppy’s fur for a while. Its important to make sure the puppy’s coat gets brushed properly before the tap comes on. Spray long coats with conditioner and brush thoroughly, then comb through, making sure you get all the way down to the skin.

Get some water round the back of the puppy’s ears and gently scrub clean. Also offer continuous praise and your puppy will think he is getting rewarded. Some dogs are more attentive if they have toy in the bath too. If your puppy has sensitive eyes, use a baby shampoo on his head area. You don’t want to burn your puppy’s delicate skin, so always test the water temperature before filling the bath tub. Now, thoroughly soak the coat with water. Avoid the eyes and ears, and keep praising. Massage some shampoo into the dog’s fur. Using the scrub brush, work the shampoo in. After completing this once, make sure you do it again to make sure your puppy is extra clean. Keep rinsing the shampoo out to give your puppy a clean finish. Lastly, condition the fur and rinse – then your dog is ready to be wrapped up in a towel and dried off.
