Like other dogs, german shepherd training is easier the younger the dog. You can still train an older dog with more time.
It is commonly thought that this type of dog needs big handling-it doesn’t. Just because this is one of the bigger breeds, you dont need anything other than good positive handling with rewards not punishment.
German shepherd training should begin as soon as possible. These animals grow into big dogs and socialisation in particular is a must, so get your dog used to other people and other dogs.
Appreciate that this is a working animal with a considerable ability.This is a high energy dog but any poor behavior should not be punished, just like any other dog. It is no coincidence that this breed is used for security work and search and rescue and also as therapy dogs, because they are so strong yet also intelligent.
You can use that intelligence when you start german shepherd training because if mishandled this dog can be destructive. This is a big dog who will need lots of exercise and you can start training when exercising.
Knowing your dog is intelligent, you have to show him or her who is boss at an early stage. Establish that you are the leader and this is a big part of the battle.
There are a number of training techniques you can bear in mind when considering german shepherd training. One technique that seem to be successful is clicker training. You could also try german shepherd agility training as part of the method to give some variety to a dog that is easily bored.
Whilst you should have training daily, you can introduce small changes gradually if you find a particular technique isnt working. This is a dog that gets bored quickly but as an advantage to that it learns quickly so you can introduce variety if necessary.

You can use the older methods in german shepherd training as well such as the command and then moving the dog into the position you want then rewarding it, such as getting the dog to sit. Ensure that you do not confuse the dog by rewarding secondary undesired behavior
Bear in mind throughout that you should look at one method of training and try it out, then move gradually to another if it doesn’t seem to be working.
German shepherd training should include socialisation at an early stage preferably as a puppy. This will get to be a big dog so it is important. You should get your dog used to other dogs in particular and also to other humans including children.
Whilst you may struggle at the beginning, you will find that a great part of owning this breed is in fact the german shepherd training.
