My Stop Dog Barking Philosophy
Each one of us who has a pet will face different types of training challenges. For some it’s how to get your dog to lay and stay. For some it could be “how can I get this dog to quit barking”.
Here’s a few ideas to stop the barking.
What Barking Would You Like To Stop?
Step #1 is deciding the type of barking behavior you want stopped. Getting your dog to stop barking completely is something that you don’t want to do. This would be far to complicated a task and to unnatural for the dog. Turn your spotlight to the barking that is the biggest nuisance. For instance, if you leave him out back does the barking seem like it will never end? Does a knock on the door set your dog off? That’s just a couple there are probably hundreds more.
Decide at what times the barking occurs the most and then turn your focus towards curbing that one.
Is There A Reason Behind This?
Nine times out of ten, something is causing your pup to bark. When he hears someone outside the door, he is giving you a heads up.
Being lonely or just plain bored could be the cause of the nighttime barking.
You will be far better prepared to stop the barking if you can just figure out “why” it is happening.
There are times that the answer to the problem could be as simple as making a few changes to the environment. If your dog barks at night while outside, bring him in.
Begin Training
Start obedience training your dog again. Fixing the bad behaviors of a trained dog is so much easier to do than if the dog has no training.
Getting Professional Advice
There are some dogs that are hard to figure out and a professional trainer may be required. If you feel a trainer is needed, make sure he has dealt with barking dogs before.
Just do your best and keep trying. There is a solution and you can find it.
